About This Quiz

The 1960s transformed popular music forever. The decade began with the twist craze and doo-wop still on the radio, but within a few years the British Invasion had rewritten the rules. The Beatles evolved from mop-topped pop sensations into studio innovators, releasing groundbreaking albums like Rubber Soul, Revolver and Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. The Rolling Stones brought raw blues energy to mainstream audiences, while Bob Dylan proved that rock lyrics could be poetry.

Motown Records in Detroit created an irresistible sound that crossed racial barriers, launching the careers of The Supremes, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye and The Temptations. Meanwhile, the psychedelic movement pushed boundaries with artists like Jimi Hendrix, The Doors and Jefferson Airplane exploring new sonic territories through distortion, feedback and studio experimentation.

The decade culminated in the summer of 1969 with the Woodstock festival, where nearly half a million people gathered on a farm in upstate New York for three days of peace, music and counterculture. From the folk revival to garage rock, from soul to psychedelia, the 1960s laid the foundation for virtually every genre that followed.
